# K9 Division Quick Reference Guide

> Rapid-access K-9 command, vehicle, care, training, certification, and emergency reference.

**Purpose:**\
Rapid-access summary for certified K9 handlers, covering command use, vehicle protocols, welfare routines, and emergency procedures.

### K9 Commands & Keybinds

### Vehicle & Transport Protocols

* **Vehicle:** Marked Ford Explorer w/ half-cage rear seat
* **K9 Seat:** Rear passenger (caged side) only
* **Supervisor Access:** Only when K9 unavailable or caged (e.g., downed officer transport)
* **Temperature Checks:** Maintain climate control; recheck every 15 minutes
* **Loading/Unloading:** Calm demeanor, leash on, door clear, watch traffic

### Feeding, Hydration & Care

* **Feeding Schedule:** Twice daily (morning & evening)
* **Hydration:** Water every 2–4 hours while on duty
* **Rest:** Minimum 1 full rest day per week
* **Stat Care:**
  * *Appetite* ↓ slowly while following, faster when attacking
  * *Hydration* ↓ faster during patrols or training
  * *Stamina* regained when resting or sleeping
  * *Happiness* ↑ from cuddles/following; ↓ if neglected
  * *Loyalty* tied to happiness and handler consistency

### K9 Detection Indicators

* K9s trained to indicate **three categories:**
  * **Drugs**
  * **Weapons**
  * **Money**

**Handler Actions After Indication:**

1. Secure K9 and scene.
2. Notify supervisor or on-scene command.
3. Confirm with secondary officer or probable cause.
4. Log all indications (time, place, type, result).

### Emergency Procedures

* **Injury (K9 or Handler):**
  * Remove from scene; call EMS or Vet
  * Secure weapon and K9
  * Notify Senior K9 Officer and Head of K9 Personnel
* **Escape / Runaway:**
  * Broadcast last known location
  * Notify local dispatch
  * Begin controlled search using tracking commands
* **Vehicle Failure:**
  * Keep K9 leashed and calm
  * Request backup transport
  * Log incident in report
