# 4.4 - Channel Control & Switching

> Rules governing radio channel control and switching.

* Only **Dispatch, Scene Command, or a Supervisor** may direct units to switch radio channels.
  * This can be overridden if units are bogging the main channel for incidents.
* Units shall not self-assign to tactical or restricted channels without authorization.
  * This can be overridden if units are bogging the main channel for incidents.
* When instructed to switch channels, units shall:
  * Acknowledge the instruction
  * Switch immediately
  * Confirm presence on the new channel if requested

Unauthorized channel use may result in corrective or disciplinary action.
