# 6.2.1 - Medical Scene Protocol

> Medical scene response and SAMS liaison procedures for law enforcement.

Before responding to any person down/medical emergency call:

* Officers must determine if SAMS is on duty *(radio, dispatch, tablet, etc.)*
* If SAMS is on duty, officers **shall not transport patients** unless explicitly directed by SAMS.

One officer on scene should be designated as the **SAMS Liaison**, responsible for:

* Direct communication with EMS
* Relaying scene conditions and patient status
* Receiving and confirming EMS instructions
