# 6.2.4 – Movement Clause (When Officers May Move a Patient)

> Circumstances and procedures for moving injured patients before EMS arrival.

Officers may move a patient only when:

* The patient is in immediate danger *(active gunfire, fire, vehicle threat, etc.)*
* No safe option exists to remain in place until EMS arrival
* Reasonable care is used to avoid additional injury *(spine precautions if trained)*

When movement is necessary:

* Move the patient to the nearest safe location
* Avoid patrol vehicle transport unless absolutely necessary
* Notify EMS immediately and explain the reason and actions taken
