# Recruitment & Cadet Onboarding

## Recruitment & Interview

1. Conduct the approved interview and record the applicant's responses and overall suitability.
2. Evaluate professional judgment, communication, roleplay expectations, and willingness to learn. **Do not assume that a pause or use of reference materials alone proves dishonesty.**
3. Record a clear recommendation: **pass**, **reinterview**, or **deny**, with reasons.
4. Forward the hiring decision to the authorized recruiting/FTD reviewers before granting sworn access.
5. Disclose any known disqualifying or pending criminal matter to command for the applicable review; the interviewing officer cannot independently grant a pardon.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The older hiring document references a **two-day reinterview period** and specific leadership approvals. Confirm those requirements against the currently approved DPS hiring policy before enforcing them.

## Appointment & Access

A successful interview does not alone authorize independent patrol. Before training begins, the designated personnel member shall verify:

* Correct in-city cadet/job rank and authorized Discord/out-of-city roles.
* Entry on the active cadet roster and training tracking sheet.
* Assigned departmental trainer or training supervisor.
* Required training website and SOP access.
* Approved uniform, patrol gear, communications access, and training vehicle permissions.
* MDT profile and authorized identity records.

## Cadet Identity & Equipment Registration

Where available and authorized, collect and enter the recruit's **photo, fingerprints, and DNA** in the appropriate MDT personnel records. Register all issued firearms in the weapons database and document the assigned equipment.

Do not create or access personal records outside the systems permitted by DPS policy.

## Station Orientation

The onboarding officer shall introduce the cadet to the department's:

* Motorpool and authorized training vehicles.
* Armory, weapon issuance, and safe storage procedures.
* Evidence room and incident-linked locker procedures.
* Locker/changing facilities, duty facilities, and reporting stations.
* Training range and practical-training locations.
* Dispatch/radio procedures and reporting expectations.

## Required Acknowledgments

Before progressing into patrol training, the cadet shall acknowledge the applicable **DPS SOP**, **Code of Ethics & Conduct**, **Use of Force Policy**, **Communications SOP**, and training responsibilities. The instructor records orientation completion and any outstanding access issues.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Cadets may participate only in assignments and vehicle operations expressly permitted by their academy/FTD stage and supervising personnel.
