# [1.3] - Employment and Advancement

> Applicant traits, onboarding, training, and advancement expectations for Medical Services and Fire Department personnel.

We’re excited that you’re considering a role within our Medical Services or Fire Department. These are positions of trust, care, and responsibility — and we’re looking for individuals who bring the right mindset and skills to serve the community with pride.

Below are some of the **core traits and expectations** we look for in all applicants. These aren’t just checkboxes — they’re part of the foundation that helps our department function as a team and earn the respect of those we serve.

## What we're looking for

* A **genuine willingness to learn and grow** — nothing is handed out; your effort earns your place.
* A **clean background** with no serious criminal history.
* **Maturity**, accountability, and the ability to take constructive feedback.
* Strong **interpersonal skills** and a respectful attitude toward others.
* The ability to **make sound decisions under pressure**.
* A team-first mentality — we succeed by working together.
* Motivation to **set goals and see them through**.

## What to expect after you're accepted

If you're selected, the onboarding process includes:

1. **Interview & Background Screening**
   * This includes submitting fingerprints, a DNA sample (IC), and a photo.
2. **Intern Phase**
   * You’ll be brought on as an Intern and paired with a certified Field Trainer.
3. **Training & Evaluation**
   * You’ll undergo structured training from the **Director of Training**, followed by live field training.
4. **Promotion to Full Staff**
   * Once your trainer is confident in your skills, you’ll be cleared for solo operation and full duty.

If you're committed, disciplined, and ready to make a difference, we look forward to seeing what you bring to the table. This isn’t just a job — it’s a chance to be someone’s lifeline when it matters most.
