# Team, Ranks & Training

> EMS role progression, supervision, onboarding, and specialty assignments.

## 2.1 **-** Ranks and responsibilities

| Role | Primary responsibility |
| - | - |
| **EMR / Trainee** | Learn the system, support calls, provide basic care with a qualified partner; no solo operations until cleared. |
| **EMT-B** | Routine assessments, care, ambulance response, transport, and patient handoff. |
| **AEMT** | Broader authorized treatments; assists with complex cases and mentors newer medics. |
| **Paramedic** | Advanced medical roleplay, complex incidents, medical scene guidance. |
| **Lieutenant / Training Lead** | Training, certification checks, mentorship, shift support. |
| **Captain / Head of EMS** | Staffing, operational supervision, escalated problems, department direction. |
| **Medical Director / designated Medical Command** | Final oversight of medical protocols, major personnel decisions, and advanced authorizations when such a position is staffed. |

> [!NOTE]
>
> This is a streamlined role outline, not a replacement for the in-game rank configuration. Administrative or specialty titles may be assigned separately; a senior treatment qualification does not automatically give disciplinary command over everyone present.

## 2.2 **-** Joining SAMS

1. Complete the department's interview or onboarding process.
2. Learn the medical resource, radio, scene safety rules, and how to interact with patients.
3. Shadow an approved trainer until able to manage ordinary calls safely.
4. Demonstrate essential skills in a practical evaluation; a trainer or EMS Command authorizes solo duty.

There is no need to recreate a police-style multi-phase academy for routine EMS work. Keep training hands-on, supportive, and proportionate to the role.

## 2.3 **-** Specialized Roles

Air medical, advanced rescue, and other specialized resources may be used by personnel qualified and approved for them. Command or a designated trainer maintains the authorization list. Routine EMS work should remain accessible without specialty certifications.

## 2.4 **-** Chain of Command

For normal questions, ask the available senior medic, trainer, or supervisor. Urgent patient safety concerns can be raised immediately to the person coordinating the scene. Respect reasonable instructions, but do not delay necessary care solely to locate a higher rank.
