# 3.3 - General Patrol Standards

> Expectations for routine patrol, public contact, professional judgment, and unit coordination.

## 3.3.1 - Purpose

Routine patrol is intended to maintain public safety, provide timely assistance, deter dangerous conduct, and create meaningful opportunities for community-oriented roleplay. Activity levels do not excuse unreasonable enforcement or poor judgment.

## 3.3.2 - Professional Patrol Conduct

Officers shall:

* Act consistently with the DPS Code of Ethics & Conduct.
* Use patience, discretion, and impartiality in public interactions.
* Observe traffic and other applicable laws unless a lawful emergency-operation exception applies.
* Remain reasonably attentive to calls for service and changes in scene conditions.
* Avoid unnecessary interference with other officers' assigned incidents.
* Follow lawful instructions from assigned supervisors and designated scene command.

## 3.3.3 - Proactive Enforcement

Officers may conduct lawful patrol, community contacts, and enforcement activity within their assignment. Every detention, search, arrest, citation, or seizure must have an appropriate legal basis. Proactive activity must never be used to manufacture charges or pressure players into an incident.

## 3.3.4 - Unit Coordination

Officers should communicate with nearby units before creating unnecessary congestion at a scene. Additional units should establish a useful responsibility—such as traffic control, containment, witness contact, or transport—rather than independently taking over another officer's investigation.

## 3.3.5 - Safety & Scene Preservation

Officers shall assess threats, bystander safety, available cover, traffic hazards, and medical needs. When practical, protect the scene from unnecessary disturbance and request additional resources before conditions become unmanageable.

## 3.3.6 - Roleplay Standards

Enforcement shall be grounded in observable in-character information and the server's roleplay requirements. Department systems, map markers, and administrative permissions shall not be used to gain unauthorized in-character knowledge or bypass legitimate interactions.
