# 4.2 - Priority & Emergency Traffic

> Radio priority, emergency interruptions, and resumption of normal traffic.

## 4.2.1 - Radio Priority

Communications concerning immediate threats to life, officer distress, urgent hazards, and active critical incidents receive priority over routine administrative or supervisory traffic, **regardless of rank**.

Scene Command, Dispatch, and supervisory personnel may control transmissions as required to manage an active incident, subject to emergency life-safety interruptions.

## 4.2.2 - Emergency Interruptions

When urgent information must interrupt ongoing radio traffic, transmit:

> **“Break, Break, Break”**

or

> **“10-3, Emergency Traffic”**

Immediately provide the necessary emergency message, including location, nature of the emergency, and resources needed when possible. Other units shall yield airtime unless providing information essential to the emergency.

## 4.2.3 - Returning to Normal Traffic

When emergency traffic is finished, the declaring unit, Dispatch, or Scene Command should announce:

> **“Resume normal traffic.”**

Units shall not assume the emergency is resolved merely because transmissions pause.

## 4.2.4 - Compliance

Interference with priority or emergency traffic may be reviewed under DAPS. Tactical operations and response requirements continue to be governed by applicable patrol and incident-response policies.
