## 4.3.4 - Authorized Channel Changes

Dispatch, Scene Command, or a Supervisor may direct units to move to an assigned channel. Units shall acknowledge the instruction, switch promptly, and confirm their presence when requested.

Units shall not self-assign to tactical or restricted channels without authorization, **except where the main channel is being overwhelmed by sustained incident traffic and a channel change is reasonably necessary to restore effective communication**. In that circumstance, the initiating unit shall notify Dispatch or Scene Command of the intended channel and identify which participating units are switching as soon as practical. This exception does not grant unrestricted access to reserved or restricted channels.

Channel changes shall not cause active units to become unreachable to incident command or dispatch.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Frequency assignments reflect the current DPS list provided for consolidation. Command should verify them against the live radio configuration before publication.
