# 7.3 - Corrective Action & Disciplinary Decisions

> Disciplinary decision-making and available corrective outcomes.

## 7.3.1 - Purpose

DAPS classifications provide a consistent way to describe misconduct severity. **Disciplinary action is a separate decision** made by an authorized supervisor or Command representative under controlling department policy.

## 7.3.2 - Available Outcomes

Consistent with DPS Section 1.1, possible measures include:

* Verbal or written counseling.
* Mandatory retraining or corrective instruction.
* Formal disciplinary documentation.
* Temporary suspension or restriction of duties.
* Removal from specialized assignments or certifications.
* Demotion or termination from the Department.
* Referral for applicable criminal or judicial proceedings.

The selected action must be supported by the facts and policy, rather than assumed solely from the numerical DAP classification.

## 7.3.3 - Decision Factors

The reviewing authority should consider the seriousness of the violation, intent, resulting harm, relevant prior history, and aggravating or mitigating circumstances, as established by Section 1.1.

## 7.3.4 - Documentation and Notification

An authorized disciplinary decision should record the underlying incident, policy violation, classification, action taken, deciding authority, and any required follow-up or retraining. Involved personnel should be notified through the approved command process.

## 7.3.5 - Duty Restrictions and Return to Service

Where a safety or integrity concern warrants temporary restriction pending review, Command should document the restriction and the authority imposing it. Restoration of duties, access, equipment, or certifications should be expressly authorized under the applicable process.

> **Not yet established by the supplied source:** cumulative DAP point thresholds, accumulation windows, automatic consequences, point removal, and fixed progressive-discipline steps. Do not represent these as approved DPS policy unless Command publishes them.
