1.4A - Cadet Onboarding

  • Ensure the cadet has been properly hired on with the correct rank in city and the proper out of city roles
    • In addition ensure they are properly set up in the cadet roster
  • Collect the following from the cadet and document it into their profile in MDT:
    • DNA
    • Fingerprints
    • Picture
    • All weapons they are issued must be registered in the weapons database
  • Give the cadet a tour of the station:
    • Motorpool
    • Evidence Storage
    • Change Room
    • Armory
    • Shooting Range
    • Showers

1.4B - FTO Phase 1

  • Ensure the cadet actively reviews the SOP if they haven’t already (It is the cadet’s responsibility to review all provided content. (failure to do so could result in being delayed in the FTO program)
    • Make sure to quiz them throughout all 3 phases
    • If they fail half the provided FTO questions they are eligible to be held back until they get the questions correct
  • As the cadet progresses through the phase check off in the Field Training Tracking Sheet, ensure you provide notes in the attached box. (Any empty notes will be considered an incomplete sheet)

1.4C - FTO Phase 2

  • Continue progressing the cadet through their sheet, in this phase they are in the driver seat with the FTO in the passenger seat. (Cadets should be in a motor pool Torrance when driving. They should not be in the FTO’s Vehicle anymore)
    • Ask all provided questions
  • Ensure they understand all procedures
  • Observe them completing the tasks in the sheet

1.4D - FTO Phase 3

  • Final phase of the FTO program before they are solo cleared
  • In this phase the cadet will be acting as if they are on their own, they will receive little to no assistance from the FTO during this phase
  • Ask the phase 3 FTO questions
  • Once the cadet’s progress through their tracking sheet is complete, the FTO must then inform the Head FTO of the completion on the sheet. The Head FTO will then sign off on the sheet if they deem it complete. (Until the Head FTO positions are filled, take it to the director, if the Director is unavailable the Commander of SAST will suffice)

1.4E - Solo Clear

  • During this phase the cadet will be in their own vehicle, meanwhile being monitored by an on duty FTO
  • The cadet will remain solo cleared for a period of 3 shifts with an on duty FTO. (Once there is no FTO on duty, the cadet must clock off)
  • Through this phase, observe the following:
    • Radio Etiquette
    • Procedure adherence
    • How they communicate with a civilian
    • How they communicate with a suspect
    • Keep track of their reports and correct them on any errors, then sign off on said reports. (This is to ensure that if a report a cadet wrote up is called into question by DOJ, the FTO is held accountable as well)
