Radio discipline is especially critical during active scenes and emergencies.

Priority Hierarchy

  • Scene Command and High Command have radio priority at all times.
  • Units shall yield airtime immediately when priority traffic is initiated.

Emergency Interruptions

If urgent or life-threatening information must override ongoing traffic, interrupt with:
“Break, Break, Break”
or
“10-3, Emergency Traffic”
Immediately follow with the emergency message only. Do not add unnecessary details. Once emergency traffic has concluded, the declaring unit or command shall state:
“Resume normal traffic.”
Failure to follow priority or emergency traffic procedures may result in disciplinary action, as improper radio use can directly endanger personnel and civilians.
