Supervisory Roles Include
- Corporal and above (formal supervision levels vary by department policy)
- Any member designated as Acting Supervisor by Command
Supervisors May Be Requested When
- An officer requires guidance on a complex or unfamiliar situation
- A civilian requests a supervisor regarding a dispute or concern
- A scene requires command presence due to severity or complexity
Supervisor Response Rules
- If a supervisor is already present, that supervisor fulfills the request.
- Additional supervisors should not respond unless requested by the on-scene supervisor or dispatch/command, to maintain patrol coverage.
Supervisor Responsibilities
- Maintain unit distribution and coverage
- Assist with prioritization and response coordination
- Enforce radio discipline and communication standards
- Assume or assign scene command as needed
- Provide mentorship and corrective guidance
- Ensure actions align with DPS Core Values and SOPs
