Officers may move a patient only when:
  • The patient is in immediate danger (active gunfire, fire, vehicle threat, etc.)
  • No safe option exists to remain in place until EMS arrival
  • Reasonable care is used to avoid additional injury (spine precautions if trained)
When movement is necessary:
  • Move the patient to the nearest safe location
  • Avoid patrol vehicle transport unless absolutely necessary
  • Notify EMS immediately and explain the reason and actions taken
