6.3.1 - Required Fleet Identification

Except for High Command authorized exceptions, all officers shall use vehicles equipped with a lightbar. Department vehicles shall display the officer’s approved callsign and proper division number at all times while in service, subject to approved undercover/special-assignment exceptions established by command. Vehicles must meet departmental markings and equipment rules.

6.3.2 - Performance Modifications

These are the previously supplied DPS amendment limits. SAST or other department-equivalent rank mapping should be formally approved before enforcing cross-agency grade equivalence.

6.3.3 - Prisoner Transport Cages

A prisoner cage is required on ordinary patrol units at all ranks. The cage may be optional only for authorized interceptor or SRU units. Officers in units without a cage are not permitted to transport detainees, regardless of rank. Transport is also subject to Section 3.7.

6.3.4 - Interceptor Deployment

  • No more than three interceptors may be deployed at one time.
  • Interceptors shall not be primary on an incident involving a vehicle below Class A.
  • On a Class A vehicle, an interceptor may serve as primary until another officer gains secondary position, at which point the interceptor shall move to secondary as required by the previously supplied directive.
  • Interceptor use remains limited to properly certified personnel and must comply with approved pursuit, intervention, and emergency driving policy.
The historic interceptor position-switching sentence has been preserved from the proposed amendment, but should be confirmed by Command for clarity in multi-unit pursuits. Vehicle classifications must be verified through the approved in-server classification system.

6.3.5 - Safety & Enforcement

Officers must inspect readiness and report unsafe conditions. Unauthorized modifications or noncompliant equipment may result in the unit being withdrawn from service and referred for supervisory review. This section does not independently authorize PIT, ramming, or use of force.
